There are many evils hidden in the dark city, and there are many heroes trying to save the city! Night in Ember City never falls slowly, but rather like a kerosene-soaked rag that is suddenly covered against the skyline and then set alight. At 5:30 in the afternoon, the last ray of sunlight was still struggling on the surface of the Ember River, reflecting orange-red, greasy spots; by 5:35, darkness had climbed up from the bottom of the river, spreading along the steel frames and chimneys of the dock area to the glass curtain walls and granite facades of the uptown area. This is not an ordinary night, this is a textured darkness that can almost be touched with your fingers - it mixes the stench of river water, the smell of sulfur from steel mills, car exhaust and fermented food residues in thousands of trash cans, forming a suffocating cocoon unique to Ember City.
