Great Ming: Ascending the Throne and Obtaining a Nine-Turn Elixir, I Become an Earthly Immortal Emperor

In the first year of Hongwu, on the day the new Ming emperor ascends the throne, a Nine-Turn Golden Elixir appears from nowhere and enters Zhu Youjian's body. With a single step, he enters the realm of the Land Immortals.

But the empire is already riddled with holes. At court, the eunuch faction and the Donglin faction scheme against each other. Beyond the borders, Huang Taiji's hundred thousand cavalry bypass the defenses, burning, killing, and looting before riding away. A million disaster refugees trudge through the snow toward the capital. Most ironically, three factions work together to suppress the news that the border defenses have fallen. Only after the enemy has safely withdrawn do the Imperial Guards dare to report it.

That very night, the new emperor summons Wei Zhongxian to the palace. With just three questions, he takes control of the Eastern Depot. Ke Shi comes seeking an audience late at night and is left to freeze to death in the snow. Fifty million taels of silver are dug out from beneath the imperial treasury, and two hundred and twenty-five eunuch faction officials are buried in a sea of flames. But Zhu Youjian knows this is still far from enough.

The body of a Land Immortal makes him immune to assassination and poisoning, but if the dynasty's fortunes collapse, even an immortal will be dragged down with it. So the next morning, the officials kneel across the snow-covered Meridian Gate, expecting the new emperor's clemency. Instead, they receive an edict powerful enough to shake the realm: purge the court, reform the border armies, and open the granaries to aid the disaster victims.
