The Taoist Priest Comes Down the Mountain and Becomes a Beggar in the Mortal World

I am Master Jingwei. I have cultivated the Dao on Qingcheng Mountain for five hundred years, perfected my Golden Core, and stand just one step from ascension.

The day I descended the mountain, my master left me a note: Enter the mortal world and temper your heart.

So I became a homeless man beneath an overpass. I rummage through trash bins, sleep on cardboard, and watch passersby steer clear of me.

Then a criminal gang set its sights on me. They figured I had no identity and no family, making me the perfect prey. They could cripple me and dump me by the roadside, turning me into a cash cow. They tried drugs, wooden clubs, steel pipes, and machetes, throwing everything they had at me.

The wooden clubs snapped. The steel pipes bent. The machetes chipped.

The gang held up their battered machetes, their hands shaking like leaves. "What the hell are you?!"

I'm just a beggar. A beggar they can't afford to mess with.
