She's Still Alive, but I've Already Confessed

At six in the morning, court stenographer Wei Zhi receives a transcript of an interrogation scheduled for thirty days in the future. There are no questions from the police in the transcript, only his own answers. The first line reads: “I admit it. I killed Wen Que.” But at noon that same day, Wen Que is standing alive before him, holding up an old statement from seven years ago and demanding to know why he left out a single “not.” Wei Zhi calls the police, runs away, and even smashes his printer, desperate to prove that he would never kill anyone. But every time he changes his choice, the future transcript gains another piece of evidence showing premeditation: “I bought the knife.” “I followed her.” “I knew she would die.” The thirty-day countdown keeps closing in. Wei Zhi must uncover the eleven-minute recording that was replaced seven years ago, and figure out why his future self will confess to the crime. More terrifying still, every sentence in the transcript is true. It's just that no one can see the question. This novel and its characters are entirely fictional.
