Black Magnet, Part Four: Seeds of Return

He planted a seed on a planet that could breathe.

The seed grew into something he had never imagined: the entire planet became a living body. Its forests could move, and its oceans could think. But just when he thought that was the end, the sky darkened. A void from the depths of the cosmos was drawing near. It sent no signals and made no contact. It simply passed by, leaving everything empty.

Gui Tu Star began to fold in on itself, hiding deep within its ley lines. Chen Ye crouched at the edge of the closing forest, pressed his palm against the cooling ground, and gave his body heat to a planet that was falling asleep.

Then he discovered that Gui Tu Star had not only survived, but had also remembered the frequency of the Dark Zone. It had grown new branches, a new form of life that encompassed both the directions of life and darkness. At the meeting point of those two directions, a bud unlike any ever seen split open.

A completely new cosmic life-form slipped out from within. Nothing on Gui Tu Star overlapped with anything else. It was Gui Tu Star's choice, and Gui Tu Star's answer. In its own way, it was learning to become part of this universe.
