Departure with a Curved Bayonet

The Bend of the Bayonet was created to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's Long March. The author consulted tens of millions of words of data and took fifteen years to conceive. The novel takes as the protagonist Chen Qing, a battalion commander of the Fourth Division of the Third Red Army. Chen Qing, a former teacher, has always been trapped in the contradiction between the compassion of a scholar and the cruelty of the battlefield. In October 1934, Chen Qing led his troops to cooperate with the 34th Division of the Fifth Red Army to complete the Soviet blockade mission and embarked on the long journey to the west. The book connects the entire Long March from the microscopic perspective of the company: the separation at Duhe River, the bitter battle at the blockade, the desperate situation of the Xiangjiang River, and the inner suffering caused by being wronged and injured; moving to Yunnan and Guizhou to cross the Chishui River, crossing the Jinsha River, and facing hunger, cold, injury, and ethnic isolation on the grassland of the Sichuan-Kangxue Mountains; witnessing the separation of comrades and the sacrifice of the wounded along the way, and the deep baptism of thoughts of everyone including the prisoners. The work avoids grand high-level narratives and focuses on the fate of ordinary people in the torrent of history. It describes the good, evil and immortal ideals of human nature in desperate situations. It uses flesh-and-blood realistic brushwork to restore a tragic journey belonging to the grassroots Red Army soldiers and interpret the spirit of the Long March that is still moving after ninety years.
