Siheyuan: Saving Ladi and Seeing Through People's Hearts with a Spirit Spring

After transmigrating to the famine years of 1960, Li Changchu lives in the Li Family Village, looking after his ancestral courtyard house. He gets a sign-in System and a portable Spirit Spring Space. While everyone else is so hungry they chew tree bark, cured pork legs hang from his rafters, milk candies and biscuits sit on his table, and he eats four dishes and a soup at every meal. He keeps a low profile and lives comfortably, until one day he opens the door and finds the widow Liang Ladi collapsed outside his gate.

He saves her life and gives her a bowl of Spirit Spring water. When Liang Ladi wakes, he sees nine black bombs hovering above her head as she grits her teeth and calls him a lecher. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, the bombs instantly disappear, replaced by nine red hearts. The System prompts him: Anyone who drinks the Spirit Spring will have their favorability visible to the Host. From then on, the whole courtyard's schemers can no longer hide their true selves from him. Qin Huairu comes by to borrow food, with three red hearts and two bombs over her head. Yi Zhonghai spouts nothing but righteousness, yet has more bombs than anyone. Before Jia Zhangshi can even open her mouth, all nine bombs are already lit.

A secret that lets him see people's hearts through the Spirit Spring, and a well-stocked portable space. Munching on a chicken leg as he watches the whole courtyard scheme against one another, Li Changchu thinks life in this courtyard is much more interesting than he'd imagined.
