The Game of Life

Li Mo, who died suddenly from working overtime, didn't stay dead. Instead, he awakened a "player interface" that let him see the "scripts of life" above everyone's heads. His coworker is about to get cheated on, his boss is going bankrupt, and a passerby will be hit by a car in three minutes. Everyone else is an NPC, acting according to their script. He is the only living person, the sole player in this world. More troubling still, he discovers another kind of person: the reborn. They return with memories of their past lives, thinking they've gained a cheat. Li Mo smiles. "I read your script in the previous chapter." Save, load, test, crush. In this endgame where all living beings are pieces on a board, he will make his move and rewrite the rules.
