Others Struggle to Survive the Apocalypse; I Build Houses and Raise Chickens

While everyone else struggles to survive in the ruins, chewing bark and eating dirt, Chen Mo is busy building a deluxe doghouse, clearing fields for crops, and naming his chickens Three-Cup Chicken, White-Cut Chicken, and Beggar's Chicken. He finds Xiaoman, who'll fight tooth and nail for half a biscuit, then tricks a shrewd, money-loving girl named Xiaoyu into joining him. The three of them set off in one vehicle, beginning an absurd daily life of post-apocalyptic construction.

They farm, raise chickens, make brick-shaped bread, build an end-of-the-world karaoke bar, and hold United Nations meetings that are really just neighborhood committee squabbles. There are no zombie sieges or dark sides of human nature, just cozy, chaotic days and a cheerful community built on fairness, friendship, and mutual aid, though Xiaoyu is always making money on the black market.

This is a serious post-apocalyptic farming novel, if you overlook the System's daily taunts about its Host's kidney deficiency, the construction vehicle demanding charging and a massage, and Xiaoman insisting on prenatal education for the eggs.

Come on, let's turn the wasteland into a paradise. And while we're at it, got any corn sausages, buddy?
