I Passed the Civil Service Exam, and the Nation Wants Me to Slay Dragons

After three years of studying, Chen Luo finally passed the civil service exam.

He ranked third in the city on the aptitude test, placed in the province's top ten on the essay exam, and made the interview panel tear up on the spot.

He thought that once he landed the job, his days would be spent writing reports, filling out forms, accruing seniority, and waiting for retirement.

But on the day he reported for duty, his superior handed him a blade.

Three feet long, engraved with runes, its edge glowing in the sunlight.

"Comrade Chen Luo, your post isn't in the Comprehensive Administration Office. Your department is the Anomalous Biological Management Bureau, code-named Mountain Division. It's a secret state agency that deals with things from mythology. Dragons, demons, monsters, and all the creatures written about in the Classic of Mountains and Seas: they're all real. Your job is to slay dragons."

Chen Luo looked down at the blade. Then up at his superior. Then down at the blade again.

"Director Zhou, I have a question. What department am I officially assigned to?"

"The Mountain Division. You're a permanent employee, number 041. That was your father's number."

Chen Luo thought for a moment, then slung the blade over his shoulder. "All right. Then this dragon is my responsibility."

At least he'd secured a stable government job.

The only problem was, the work was a little rough.
