West Hi: German Epic

On the Somme in 1916, artillery fire tore the sky into pieces. The young German soldier Ernst Berg discovered a wounded Austrian in the messenger bunker. His thighs were torn apart by shrapnel, and hunger and despair were written on his face. Ernst put the remaining half piece of bread into his hand, carried him on his back and rushed to the field hospital. When leaving, the man looked at him with weak but burning eyes: "My name is Adolf Hitler... I will remember you, Ernst Berg." No one thought that this half piece of bread in the trench would ferment over the years into something that would change the world. This novel and its characters are purely fictitious. Any similarity is purely coincidental and should not be imitated.
