Espionage: Undercover! The Schemes of the Mortal World Are All My Pawns

Synopsis:

The moment Shen Liushu opens his eyes, he has transmigrated from the future into the Shanghai Military Statistics Bureau in 1937. His predecessor was a lecherous good-for-nothing who got himself a post as chief of general affairs through relatives and a life debt. Even worse, this body also carries the identity of a Japanese Kempeitai spy: a double agent, where one wrong step means death.

But he has all of his predecessor's memories and knows better than anyone how this game will play out.

Zhou Lisheng sets a trap to use the Japanese to kill the Red Army? Shen secretly passes a note to Shuangyue, the dance hall's star hostess, and foils the plot. Liu Xiong wants to use him as a pawn? With a few words, he shoves the hot potato onto a section chief and walks away with nothing but a deputy representative post. The bureau's upper ranks harbor both a Communist Party spy known as "Old Kite" and a Japanese spy called "Ace of Hearts"? He keeps his composure and waits to see who slips up first.

While others use steel needles and electric shocks in the interrogation room to torture confessions out of Communist Party members, he stands nearby, his gaze cold. People like that will pay sooner or later. When Dai Li's purge plan comes down, demanding that 365 female agents in hiding be uncovered within 50 days, Shen Liushu finally smiles.

In this chaotic era, everyone is a pawn. But he, of all people, knows what the chessboard looks like.
