Lan Fang, a female secretary who returned to her hometown after graduating from a work-study program, helped Song Fan, the lame factory director, to revitalize the brick and porcelain factory that was on the verge of difficulties. She also witnessed the town burning out of the soil with her terminally ill cousin who had returned from the army. One is silent and inferior but strong and affectionate, the other is gentle and clear but has a short life. Amidst the tide of the times and the choices of destiny, Lan Fang finally leads the town to take off and towards his own love.
