Story summary
Lu Tingtang moved back to the city after three years away to teach modern literature at a university. She lived a monotonous and dissociated life: preparing lessons, attending classes, and returning to the rental house on the street. She had no sense of belonging to the city and no enthusiasm for life.
One afternoon, she accidentally walked into a flower shop called "Huajian" and met the owner of the flower shop, Shen Mo. Silent and reticent, with a band-aid always on her hands, Baohua's movements are slow and focused. Lu Tingtang couldn't explain the reason, but he went again the next day. She began to visit the flower shop regularly, buy a bouquet of flowers, look at the silent package of flowers, and then leave.
There was not much dialogue between the two women, just silent gazes and an increasingly familiar silence. Lu Tingtang didn't know why she walked to that flower shop again and again, just as she didn't understand why the profile of her head bowed while silently wrapping flowers would appear repeatedly in the rental house late at night.
