This Monk Only Wants to Leave the Priesthood, but the System Forces Me to Become a Buddha

The protagonist, Bujie, is a young monk at Jinshan Temple with no aptitude for enlightenment. All he thinks about is leaving the monastery to enjoy good food and drink. One day, the abbot makes him kneel as punishment for stealing offerings, and he unexpectedly activates the Great Merit Holy Monk System from the Upper Realm. Its ultimate goal is to help him attain Buddhahood, and it forcibly binds itself to Bujie, helping him cultivate by issuing all kinds of tasks to "do good and accumulate merit."

The punishments for failing are bizarre and extremely torturous, such as making a halo shine above his head for a thousand miles or adding Buddhist chanting effects to his speech. Bujie has no choice but to grit his teeth and complete the tasks. While carrying out the ridiculous mission to "persuade Zhang the Butcher down the mountain to lay down his butcher's knife," he accidentally saves Ye Liuli, a demoness from the demonic path who is being hunted by her enemies. She mistakes him for a hidden master with astonishing cultivation.

From then on, Bujie is forced onto a path to "sainthood" against his will. He looks solemn and dignified on the outside, while ranting furiously inside. With all sorts of bizarre Buddhist powers and items granted by the System, he repeatedly escapes danger amid a series of absurd and hilarious events.
