Siheyuan: I Asked You to Build a Machine Tool, Not a Nuclear Submarine

He Jianguo transmigrates to 1958 and becomes a university graduate newly assigned to the Sixth Ministry of Machine Building. He moves into Courtyard No. 95 on Nanluoguxiang Alley.

On his first day at work, his superior gives him an assignment: “Start by copying Soviet machine tools and solving the problem of machining parts.”

He Jianguo looks at the crude blueprints and frowns. “These machine tools are too slow. I'm going to build something big!”

And so, three months later...

While Yi Zhonghai is still congratulating himself on becoming a Level Eight fitter, and Qin Huairu is still scheming over a pound of cornmeal... a top-secret transfer order arrives, and He Jianguo is whisked away in a government car!

Six months later, as the first nuclear submarine tears through the deep sea, the Western world trembles!

An American expert cries, “Oh my God! Their technology is fifty years ahead of ours!”

The Navy chief exclaims, “I asked you to make a machine tool for practice, and you turn around and give me a nuclear submarine?!”

The courtyard's busybodies are stunned. “Wasn't Jianguo just a junior clerk? Why are there armed guards standing outside his door?”
