The continent of Palos is the "mirror plane" of the Pokémon world. The Pokémon ecology is consistent with the original work, but due to the intersection of the two realms in ancient times, a weak "void rift" was left. The Purcell elves were not created out of thin air, but were "visitors from another world" who drifted here through rifts. They were regarded locally as the legendary "void species". This novel and its characters are purely fictitious. Any similarity is purely coincidental and should not be imitated.
