The Legend of a Lowly Soldier at Death's Gate

This isn't a System novel. I wanted to give my brain a break and write something lighter. Xie Buxian is a low-ranking soldier at the Gates of Hell, where he's spent three hundred years slacking off and waiting to die. His ideal life, in death, is to save up money, give gifts, and get transferred away from this gloomy, drafty post.

That is, until he breaks the rules to let a fake through, all for "brotherhood" and a five-star review.

The underworld descends into chaos. A soul of destiny appears in the mortal realm, and the blame lands squarely on his shoulders.

The Empress of Youdu sneers right beside him. "Either redeem yourself by fixing this mess, or drink your fill of Granny Meng's soup and report to the animal reincarnation queue."

Looking at the paper funeral staff in his hand and his empty pockets, Xie Buxian burst into tears.

Since when did even the underworld have KPIs and rank-and-yank evaluations?!

To avoid being reincarnated as a pig, Xie Buxian grits his teeth and sets out with his unreliable teammates, caught between blame-shifting superiors, rampaging vengeful spirits, and Taoist priests always trying to "exorcise" him by force.

But he gradually discovers that these murky waters are deeper than he imagined. And it seems he's forgotten something very important...

For instance, how exactly did he die three hundred years ago?

This novel and its characters are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to actual persons or events is purely coincidental. Do not imitate.
