Great Ming: A Corrupt Official? Zhu Yuanzhang Begs Me Not to Die!

In the tenth year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang travels incognito through the south, swearing to purge the corrupt officials of Jiangnan. But when he enters the city, Wu County is packed with factories, ordinary people eat braised pork at every meal, and even beggars are trading stocks! County magistrate Xu An is richer than the state itself, rides around in an armored carriage, and keeps a private army at home.

Zhu Yuanzhang is furious. “The most corrupt official in history! I’ll have him skinned and stuffed with grass!” Xu An calmly produces a financial report. “Your Majesty, this is this year’s dividend for the imperial treasury: ten million taels.” Zhu Yuanzhang’s hand trembles. “...You’ve worked hard, my dear minister. Shall I peel an orange for you?”

Reassign Xu An to Songjiang to scrape by? He turns around and starts a real estate empire, even building an invincible fleet and turning Japan into a Ming mining colony!

Send him to Beiping to guard the frontier? He sells the naming rights to the Great Wall, then uses the profits to build tanks and Gatling guns, making the Northern Yuan howl for their mothers!

Hu Weiyong: “Your Majesty, Xu An is richer than the state itself. He’s bound to rebel!” Zhu Yuanzhang kicks him aside. “Shut up! He’s my God of Wealth! The Ming’s empire never sets on the sun, all thanks to his glorious greed!”
