The Carefree Prince of the Great Ming

Zhu Gui, a highly qualified modern emergency medicine specialist, dies suddenly from overwork and awakens in the thirteenth year of the Hongwu era. He has become Zhu Gui, the thirteenth son of Zhu Yuanzhang, a prince neglected by his father and mother alike, still without a fief at nearly sixteen.

Knowing how dangerous imperial power was in the early Ming and how many princes met unhappy ends, he decides to keep a low profile, stay out of sight, and live quietly. But the imperial palace is no sanctuary. By chance, he meets the Crown Prince's son, Zhu Yunwen, crying after being harshly scolded by his imperial grandfather. Zhu Gui patiently comforts him using modern teaching methods, unexpectedly forging a bond between them.

He had planned to keep his head down, but his interactions with Zhu Yunwen and the occasional glimpse of his intelligence draw the secret attention of the suspicious Zhu Yuanzhang. Unfamiliar spies linger outside his courtyard, watching his every move, and his plan to stay unnoticed suddenly faces danger. Caught between the emperor's ever-tightening suspicion and his growing bond with the Crown Prince's son, how can Zhu Gui protect his carefree life and keep himself safe amid the undercurrents of the Hongwu court, on the eve of the strife involving Crown Prince Zhu Biao, the future Jianwen Emperor, and the Yongle Emperor?
