Conversations Across Time: Becoming a Top-Rated Host

Lin Zhou is just a little-known host at CCTV, on the verge of being cut. Then he unexpectedly activates a Time-and-Space Dialogue System. With one hand, he connects to CCTV’s broadcast signal; with the other, he reaches into the battlefields of the Spring and Autumn period. In front of the entire nation, he chats with Confucius about benevolence and propriety, and debates Laozi about non-action!

The audience thinks it’s an immersive livestream with state-of-the-art special effects. Director Wang slaps the table and cries, “That effects budget was worth every penny!” Sister Zhang praises the actors for outdoing veteran performers. Only Lin Zhou knows the truth: he really is talking to the Sage Confucius from over two thousand years ago, and what he’s filming is the actual Spring and Autumn period, with no script!

From a midnight time slot nobody cared about to an online sensation whose viewers clamor, “We’re waiting for the next episode to see the ancient sages,” and from being doubted by the station to becoming CCTV’s crown jewel, Lin Zhou uses his time-traveling conversations to show audiences five thousand years of history:

“Mr. Confucius, do you think today’s rat race counts as ‘wealth and status gained unrighteously’?”

“Master Li Bai, would you like to try some modern-day Moutai?”

“Your Majesty Qin Shi Huang, how many times faster is this high-speed rail than your chariot?”

The whole internet is buzzing: “Did CCTV use cheats for this show?”

Lin Zhou: “No, I just opened a passage through time and space.”
