Su Ruanruan, the villainous supporting girl in the Spirit Realm survival game, is framed by her scheming maid, Bai Tang. Bai Tang pins a "Wraith Curse" on her, causing the protagonist's party to have her devoured by vengeful spirits. After her death, Su Ruanruan is reborn in 2123 in the body of Lin Xiaoman, a young woman working at a milk tea shop in the real world. She discovers that a neural link lets her return to the game at the point before she was framed. To get revenge and save herself, she decides to lie flat completely: she won't take resources from the original heroine, Bai Wanwan, or provoke the protagonist's party. She even goes out of her way to feed cats belonging to NPCs and hand water to players. Unexpectedly, she activates the "Lie-Flat Energy System": doing nothing and staying out of trouble earns energy, which she can exchange for cultivation and items. Every hour spent lying flat raises her Spirit Adept level by one; the "Spirit Eye" lets her see ghosts, and "Clear Spirit Talismans" purify vengeful spirits. As she spends more time lying flat, Su Ruanruan's cultivation skyrockets. She also discovers that Bai Tang is an inside agent for the game's developers, who intend to trap players' souls in the game and use them as test subjects. Just then, Gu Zhaozhao, a sunny and goofy player who works as a courier, enters the game to search for his missing sister and approaches her, hoping they can uncover the truth together. Jealous of Su Ruanruan's good fortune, Bai Tang once again schemes to frame her for stealing the "Sacred Relic of the Spirit Realm."
