From Beggar to Dragon Throne: I Ran Wild in Late Tang

Reborn as Li Xie, a member of the imperial clan in the late Tang Dynasty, I ended up a beggar in Chang'an. Beneath the Vermilion Bird Gate, I watched Zhu Wen throw Emperor Xizong's young son from the city wall, splattering me with blood. With his last breath, the little prince pressed a piece of broken jade into my hand. "The Great Tang Imperial Seal is..." That night, the beggars' ranks were shaken by the news: the rebels planned to seize the Daming Palace tonight! I hid the warm shard of jade and lit the beacon fire. A hundred thousand beggars emerged from Chang'an's darkest corners, armed with sharpened bamboo spears.

"Since Heaven has granted me the Imperial Seal," I said, standing at the front, "why not replace this dynasty?" The city burned beneath a sky of blood-red flames, with beacon fires blazing everywhere.

"Follow me and storm the city! Whoever kills Zhu Wen will be made a marquis with ten thousand households!"
