Testing Swords Across Mountains and Rivers, Amid the Fireworks of Mortal Life

When a chemistry teacher meets a Tang dynasty swordsman, a thrilling adventure spanning a thousand years begins. After an experiment explodes, chemistry teacher Shen Zhibai accidentally transmigrates to the Tang dynasty. By a twist of fate, he saves Xu Xingzhou, a swordsman wanted by the imperial court. Xu turns out to be the son of Xu Jingye, a general who raised troops against Wu Zetian. One is a sarcastic young man with a head full of modern science; the other, a cold and aloof swordsman. Together, they are forced to flee.

Drawing on his chemistry knowledge, Shen Zhibai repeatedly pulls off ingenious tricks: he uses saltpeter to make ice and foil an arson attack, vinegar to counter a knockout drug and expose a shady inn, and even builds high-tech devices like a bamboo-tube telescope and primitive gunpowder weapons. Xu Xingzhou, meanwhile, is a peerless swordsman who can take on a hundred men alone. From the massacre of a salt merchant's family in Yangzhou to an imperial examination scandal, from the mysterious deaths of warhorses on the frontier to a crisis at a palace banquet, the two join forces to solve one mystery after another and gradually uncover a shocking conspiracy. Beneath the splendor of the Tang dynasty, dark currents are stirring, and the choices they make will change the course of history...
