Mythic Endgame Recovery: From the Start, I Recruit Kasumigaoka Utaha

I stood at the intersection in front of Shinjuku Station, still clutching the wrapper from a discounted convenience-store rice ball. The late-March night breeze carried the last remnants of the cherry blossoms. It should have been an utterly ordinary Tokyo spring night, if those burning bronze fragments hadn't suddenly torn open the sky.

The moment a mechanical female voice erupted beside my ear, I watched helplessly as a beam of golden light sliced a skyscraper a hundred meters away in half. It wasn't a laser weapon, but a massive gilded pillar carved with Sanskrit. A five-clawed golden dragon coiled around its shaft and let out a deafening roar.

What the hell... was that the Golden Cudgel?

It felt as if someone had stuffed an electrified steel wool ball down my throat. My eyes followed the falling fragments against my will. Burning glazed roof tiles rained down on the asphalt, each one bearing the palace carvings from Journey to the West. A plaque carved with Lingxiao Palace landed at an angle beside a bus stop, splitting the LCD screen's AKB48 concert ad in two.
