The rain fell on Chentang Pass for three whole years.

It wasn't rain. It was blood.

Every day at the third quarter of the Yin hour, a corpse would appear out of nowhere atop the city walls.

A young man with a broken neck, a Fire-Tipped Spear through his chest, and a Red Armillary Sash soaked dark red with blood.

But after the Mao hour passed, the corpse would vanish, and the townspeople would repeat their howls like puppets on strings: “The rebel son must die!”

They did not remember killing Nezha 327 times.

Then one day, a woman draped in tattered red gauze came through the blood rain.

Barefoot, she stepped through the pools of blood on the city wall. Pinching a wilted lotus petal between her fingertips, she smiled at Nezha, curled up amid the pile of corpses:

“Does it hurt? Good. It should.”

“When Nuwa mended the heavens, the pain of having her soul devoured by chaos was ten thousand times worse.”

Flames, blue-black and intertwined, kindled in Nezha's pupils.

He recognized the woman's eyes. The same blood-red lotus markings had appeared on the tattered wings Lei Zhenzi had left behind last night.

“They're treating you like a bug to be patched out. I want you to become a virus instead.” The woman pressed the lotus into his chest. “Go burn through this cycle, burn until even the Heavenly Dao...”
