Sun Wukong Reenacts the Havoc in Heaven

On Flower-Fruit Mountain, Sun Wukong looks out over his home and its surrounding landscape, full of helpless frustration. He decides to move to Mount Tai with his monkeys. But when the Celestial Court hears of it, it refuses to allow the move, repeatedly blocking him with excuses about territorial boundaries and disturbing the mountain gods.

Sun Wukong has always had a fiery temper, and now he is thoroughly enraged. Riding his Somersault Cloud, he charges straight for the Southern Heavenly Gate. The celestial soldiers swarm him, but his Ruyi Jingu Bang sweeps through them as if no one were there, and the gods fall one after another. The Jade Emperor panics and hurriedly summons Buddha Tathagata.

Sun Wukong is not the least bit afraid. Relying on his skills and quick wits, he deftly keeps Tathagata at bay. As they fight, he loudly exposes the Celestial Court's schemes and corruption: monopolizing sacred land, pocketing tribute, and one misdeed after another. The watching gods exchange uneasy glances. Some begin to wonder if the Celestial Court really is in the wrong.

After a fierce battle, the Celestial Court finally gives in. Sun Wukong gets his wish and moves to Mount Tai with his monkey troop. Meanwhile, spurred by the gods' soul-searching, the Celestial Court begins to reflect on itself, and quiet changes take root.
