Zhang Tao was reborn as Fahai, in the solemn, stately Jinshan Temple of ancient times. Gazing at the Buddha statues in the temple, he felt utterly lost and conflicted.

At that time, the romance between Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen, a human and a demon, was the talk of the world. Fahai knew that, according to traditional beliefs, humans and demons belonged to different worlds, demons were all evil, and for one to fall in love with a human was an offense against heaven. He remembered the mission he bore: to slay demons and uphold justice in the human world. But faced with the sincere love between Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen, he wondered if there might be a depth of feeling he had never understood.

Fahai stood high above Jinshan Temple, gazing at the bustling world in the distance, his heart torn by an unending struggle. He knew that if he insisted on breaking up the couple, he would surely be condemned by everyone. But if he let things go...
