The story takes place in a fictional dynasty in ancient China. The power struggle within the dynasty is complicated. Prime Minister Gu Jinyao controls the lifeline of the court. He appears to be amiable but is actually sinister and cunning. He controlled power behind the scenes and devised a conspiracy to destroy the Liu family. Liu Qingyi is the only daughter of the Liu family. The family was once prominent several generations ago, but due to Gu Jinyao's conspiracy, the family fell into decline. This novel and its characters are purely fictitious. Any similarity is purely coincidental and should not be imitated.
