I Started Out with Gastly and Will Become a Pokémon Master

Ash missed out on the starter trio and got Pikachu instead, then won the championship with the help of the Pikachu God. But in a parallel world, if he missed out on the starter trio and didn't get Pikachu, would getting Gastly give the story a completely different feel?

Gastly could hide in the shadows and attack enemies without even coming out of its Poké Ball. It was perfect for a rookie Trainer, and it could Mega Evolve, too.
