Hou Liangping Falls, and I, Chengdu, Take His Place

Director Qi chose to shoot himself rather than betray anyone.

Zhao Ruilong was sentenced to life in prison, but he still didn't confess to the dirty work he'd ordered Cheng Du to do.

The loyalty of those two men meant the police investigating the case couldn't gather evidence of Cheng Du's crimes and couldn't convict him.

In the end, the provincial Public Security Department criticized his conduct for frequently visiting Shanshui Manor to eat, drink, and have fun, then demoted him to an ordinary police officer at the Guangming District Branch in Jingzhou.

His wife, Liu Jingjing, complained,

"Honey, ever since you left the provincial department, the people at the hospital have been gossiping about me behind my back."

"They used to call me Sister Liu so warmly, but now they speak to me with nothing but sarcasm."

Cheng Du sighed. "I'm sorry you've had to put up with this, honey."

"But don't worry. One day, I'll return to the provincial department."

At that, Liu Jingjing perked up and rolled onto her side to ask,

"Back at the provincial department?"

"As the deputy director of the office again?"

Cheng Du shook his head and said slowly,

"As director."

"You'd better prepare yourself to be the director's wife."
