The protagonist Yao Jiayi, a 26-year-old graduate student, gave up further studies and chose to rent a house and work in Weiying City. She refused funding from her parents and rented an old one-bedroom apartment, hoping to turn it into a cozy home. However, she soon discovered that her neighbors had moved out one after another because a woman had jumped to her death in the next room, and the cause of death was unknown.
