Singer Goes Live

Two foreign female singers wipe the floor with the Chinese singers.

When singers at home hear about the livestream competition format, they all politely decline.

Soon, people are saying, "A fifty-year-old woman guards the nation's gates," "The whole country is calling in reinforcements," and "Yingzi takes on the six-nation alliance."

Foreign netizens are all watching the Chinese music scene make a fool of itself.

Seeing the online chatter, a man who had been out of the public eye for four years returns.

He is China's youngest male suona player with a doctorate.

He is the youngest mentor on a certain music variety show.

He is also a master of every instrument.

He is Gu Bei.

He opens with a pipa piece adapted from classical poetry, showing foreigners the depth of Chinese culture and turning the tables.

Then he brings out suona electronic music, blowing up the whole stage with a sound they can understand.

Next, he plays pop music on the erhu, drawing everyone into a musical world they can't escape.
