Northeast China: Tales of Spirit Mediums

A strip of red cloth, three feet and three inches long. The old hall's people and the old hall's immortal. One day, I'll leave the deep mountains and make my name known far and wide!

I was born in the countryside of Northeast China in the 1980s. When I was seven, an expert told me I was fated to suffer three calamities and eight hardships, and that one day I'd become a spirit medium. I didn't believe him, but I endured hardship and setbacks again and again. To make ends meet, I worked as a waiter, went on business trips, and drove a taxi... But it was as if fate had cursed me. All kinds of strange things kept happening around me. Left with no other choice, I became a spirit medium.
