A Comparison of Two Baoyus in Dream of the Red Chamber: The Emperor's Precious Jade Makes the Jia Family Jealous

On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, Jia Yuanchun, newly made an Imperial Consort, had just returned to the Jia residence. The Jia household was at its liveliest.

A sky screen descended, comparing parallel worlds and showing the completely different lives of two Jia Baoyus.

The Jia family watched the sky screen: Jade Radiance Emperor, Jia Baoyu, founding emperor of Rongguo.

Then they looked at the other Jia Baoyu, who ultimately became a monk.

They couldn't help feeling frustrated. They were both born with jade in their mouths, so why was there such a huge difference between them?

Lin Daiyu looked at the sky screen on the left, where she had wept until her tears ran dry and died of illness in bed.

On the right, she wore a phoenix coronet and ceremonial robes, the mother of the realm.

She too wondered whether she could cross the sky screen and follow Jade Radiance Emperor Jia Baoyu.

Qin Keqing, Miaoyu, and Wang Xifeng all wondered the same thing: could they follow His Majesty?

Only the young master of the Happy Red Court, Jia Baoyu, was furious. He hurled his jade to the ground:

"My sisters' hearts have all been bewitched. Why should I keep you, you worthless thing?"
