Set in modern China, "Stay Alive" tells the story of a little person, Xu Xing, struggling to survive in a war-torn era. As a child, Xing witnessed her father selling her sister to an opium dealer for a bag of opium. Her mother ran into a river and her two younger brothers were lost. When she was dying of illness, she was rescued by a sister named Hong who told her to live.
Later, she was adopted by her aunt who was working as a concubine in a wealthy family in the north. Her aunt used a meager amount of money to support her education, and the two lived together for more than ten years. When her aunt died of illness, she was forced to marry another family as a concubine. She originally wanted to run away from marriage and go to the revolution, but she failed to catch the train and was caught back to reproduce. Ten months later, she gave birth to a daughter and was kicked out of the house and thrown into a remote dilapidated house to survive. Later, only Dong Fu, who became a nun, thought of them, but a disaster occurred. Dong Fu was thought to be a reactionary by the authorities and was killed. Xing's daughter starved to death, and she was also taken to prison and tortured. Fortunately, she survived. Time came to 1938,... Until the founding of New China, she grew into a red figure.
