This "Journey to the West" continues the story of "Journey to the West", but it is different in form. The latter is about collecting scriptures, while the former is about passing on scriptures. Five hundred years after Journey to the West, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Monk Sha, who had finally achieved enlightenment, could not bear their loneliness and asked the Buddha to resign. They wanted to retire from the Buddhist class, return to their hometown, and become free people. The Tathagata Buddha granted their request. Before breaking up, the three brothers went to Chang'an City to visit their master Tang Sanzang. Tang Monk asked Wukong to go to Leiyin Temple to deliver a letter to the Buddha. The letter said: "Nowadays, all living beings in the world have evil thoughts everywhere, wars continue, and people are in dire straits. Therefore, there is an urgent need for our Buddha to have a true scripture that explains the roots of good and evil and the cause and effect of gains and losses. Please pray for The Buddha can pass down such scriptures to the world." Buddha Tathagata counted the candidates who had already passed on the scriptures. At this time, Tao Muwa, the descendant of Sun Wukong, was making a big fuss in the heaven, which led to the birth of Lazy Hanwa, the descendant of Bajie, Morova, the descendant of Sand Monk, and Xiu Shanwa, the adopted son of Sanzang of Tang Dynasty, and started the story of the four children preaching sutras to the Buddha.
