The light of the world arose in Huaxia, so the gods of Huaxia were born alongside heaven and earth, while all other gods came later. Most later-born gods need the power of faith to survive, the power of incense offerings to grow stronger, or the power of sacrifices to endure.
The Three Pure Ones once said: "The Way of Heaven takes from those who have too much and gives to those who lack. The way of man takes from those who lack and gives to those who have too much." Look at those Western religions. Is that not exactly what they do? Those who believe in these faiths are poor, sick, afflicted, disabled, or wretched by birth. Is there a single noble, free of illness and misfortune, who sincerely believes in such things? They use them to control their subjects, or to keep them ignorant!
There are three paths to decline. First, a people worship their ancestors before they prosper and continue to worship their ancestors once they do. Then Huaxia flourishes. Second, a people worship gods before they prosper, then worship their ancestors once they do. Then Huaxia remains in balance. Third, a people worship gods before they prosper and continue to worship gods once they do. Then Huaxia declines. Yet the third path is commonplace in this world. People often say, "We could never have attained such prosperity on our own; it must be the gods' favor," and so they keep offering sacrifices to the gods. How ridiculous! Why not consider that your ancestors are protecting you? Those ethereal gods neither gave birth to you nor raised you. They share no blood ties or old bonds with you, so why would they favor you?
