A boy named Riley and his friends are lured to an evil town called Carousel, where horror movies come to life. Riley feels he's unlucky because he's been assigned the archetype of a movie buff, a supporting character who can easily die in a movie. At first he thought he would just keep dying, but then he discovered a way to survive. He acquires a gimmick called the Ignorant Passerby, where monsters and killers won't hurt him as long as he can pretend not to notice. At first, this ability seems like a joke, but Riley believes that if he can use it wisely, it may be his greatest advantage.
