Our Home's Been Robbed! Get Back Here!

During the Qing dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi indulged in luxuries and built the Old Summer Palace to house treasures gathered from across the Central Plains.

In the tenth year of the Xianfeng reign, she heard that a sacred jade artifact had been found atop a mountain in the Central Plains. It seemed to have the power to grant the wishes of whoever possessed it.

Delighted by the news, Cixi ordered a 24-man convoy to transport the artifact to the Old Summer Palace, where it would be enshrined as its greatest treasure.

But then foreign allied forces suddenly invaded the Central Plains, marching all the way to the Old Summer Palace. They plundered every treasure inside and set the palace on fire.

When the 24-man convoy heard the news, they hid with the jade artifact along their route to keep it safe.

When Empress Dowager Cixi heard, she assumed the 24 men had kept the artifact for themselves. Furious, she branded them the Twenty-Four Bandits.

But after the foreign allied forces burned down the Old Summer Palace, the Qing dynasty rapidly declined, and no one went looking for the Twenty-Four Bandits or the sacred jade artifact again.

From then on, the Twenty-Four Bandits and the sacred jade artifact vanished without a trace, unheard of until 2010.
