Great Ming: A Self-Assessment That Infuriates Zhu Yuanzhang

In the sixth year of Hongwu, a self-assessment written by Meng Yin, a low-ranking county official in a small border town, enraged Zhu Yuanzhang and roused his murderous instincts. He issued an order to have the man sliced into a thousand pieces.

But after listening to advice, Zhu Yuanzhang decided to visit the border town himself and see what was going on.

When he arrived, he found the townspeople living comfortably. Factories were integrated, the streets buzzed with people, and the town was thriving.

Zhu Yuanzhang: "Damn it! This is supposed to be some poor backwater on the border? It's rolling in wealth!"

But the scenes that followed left Zhu Yuanzhang regretting the trip with all his heart!

"I should have killed him long ago!"

"Chongba! You've misjudged him again. Meng Yin has rendered great service, and he's a true talent!"

Zhu Di and Zhu Gang: "Father, you can't kill him! As long as he's in the border town, we can enjoy peace in our fiefs."

Prefect Meng Yin: "Your servant has secretly manufactured hundreds of thousands of suits of armor and tens of thousands of long-range rockets, and built the strongest army on land."

Provincial administration commissioner Meng Yin: "Your servant has built a private navy with hundreds of nuclear-powered ironclad warships. We can rebel at any time and raze Yingtian Prefecture."

As one promotion edict after another came flying in like snowflakes,

Meng Yin was dumbfounded: "Zhu Chongba, I'm this brazen, and you still won't kill me?"
