This Place Used to Be Western Zhou

This is the story of the Western Zhou, whose history lasted for eight hundred years, making it the longest-lived dynasty in Chinese history. This period was the most important foundation-laying stage in the history of Chinese civilization. The author hopes to weave together historical records and all the stories passed down among the people during this period, bringing them to life in this book. The aim is to take readers across the river of time to recreate the true Western Zhou, using accessible language to help them move beyond obscure historical texts and understand the era as a whole.

From the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors to the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, anyone who reads history must read about the Western Zhou. This was the most important stage in the development of Chinese civilization, and also the most brilliant and flourishing age in Chinese cultural history, when a hundred schools of thought contended. This book focuses on the history of the Western Zhou because of the period's unique nature: it marked China's transition from a slave society to a feudal society, and the development of civilization throughout Huaxia advanced at an unprecedented pace. The author intends to continue the story in a later work, covering the Eastern Zhou, the Spring and Autumn period, and the Warring States period.
