Siheyuan, 1955: Starting with Shadow Puppet Shows

Chen Ze accidentally transmigrates to 1955 and becomes a resident of a Beijing courtyard compound.

He activates the Check-In System. As long as he completes the daily check-in task, he receives a reward.

Day 1: Watch a shadow puppet show.

Day 2: Drink fermented mung bean juice and make Old Beijing-style douzhi.

Day 3: Take a sightseeing trip on a streetcar.

Day 4: Check in at an open-air theater and listen to plum-blossom drum performances.

Day 5...

Day 6...

As the days of checking in go by, Chen Ze travels far and wide, experiencing the simple customs and culture of the 1950s.

He has beaten a drum atop a city gate tower, fished at Shichahai, directed traffic at the west entrance to Huguo Temple, discussed literature with great writers at the Cultural Palace, and left behind an iconic moment on the streets of Hong Kong.

In the National Gate Square, he once shouted, "I have come, and I stand by what I have seen!"

He has left his footprints all over the 1950s.

But gradually, Chen Ze realizes that the check-in locations are getting more and more "strange"...

Check in at the Navy Headquarters; check in at the Army Headquarters...

Until the final day, when he sees the check-in location: Zijin Pavilion...
