Chronicles of the Soul Wastes

Why were figures in ancient myths, such as Nuwa, Fuxi, Gonggong, and the Queen Mother of the West, depicted as nonhuman beings with human heads and serpent bodies? Why have such bizarre and exaggerated mythical beasts as Xiangliu and the Nine-Tailed Fox vanished without a trace? Why did the nonhuman figures and mythical beasts of these ancient myths suddenly disappear? How did the First Emperor unify the realm? Why was he obsessed with the art of immortality on the islands beyond the sea? How did Bai Qi rise from obscurity to become the undefeated God of Slaughter, the greatest general of the Warring States period?
