While traveling the world, photographer Xi Jialing meets Linghu Ruiqi, a PhD in biology. At the Parthenon in Athens, Greece, they encounter a wise old man. He tells Xi Jialing that humanity is facing an unprecedented calamity, and that perhaps her innate gifts can save humanity from another destruction. From then on, Xi Jialing dreams every night of a strange and mysterious island, and a dreamlike, enigmatic story begins to unfold.
