The Gods' Only Believer

At just twenty years old, I'm already a Forbes-listed billionaire.

My secret is the power of faith. For that, when I was young, I made several trips to Southeast Asia to seek advice from many of the greatest masters of our time. I also spent a fortune building a massive, mind-bending formation on Gamma, a planet forty light-years from Earth. Among its most devoted believers was one I named Mianmian. After all, the green grass by the riverbank*; Mianmian yearns for the one far away. We were separated by forty-five light-years, the distance of an entire galaxy.

For tens of thousands of years, Mianmian had longed for my arrival. But I was only a false god, so all I could do was keep him wanting me while never quite giving in.

Then one day, I offended a very influential big shot. After drinking ninety-eight bottles of cocktails, he actually set fire to my villa halfway up the mountain. He said he only wanted to get in touch with me and lure me out. I fled to Gamma, only to discover that the whole thing was a plot: Gamma had developed a consciousness, and it wanted to replace me and become a god.
