Life at Dawn, Death at Dusk

Mayflies are born at dawn and die by dusk. They live their entire lives without ever knowing how long people can live. To them, humans are eternal.

People live for a hundred years, yet spend their entire lives without knowing how long cultivators can live. To mortals, cultivators are eternal.

Cultivators struggle through a thousand years, never learning how long the Heavenly Dao can endure. So to cultivators, the Heavenly Dao is eternal.

But what about the Heavenly Dao? What, to it, is eternal?

I don't know either. That's why I decided to keep going.

When mayflies become human, they learn that humans are not immortal. When humans become cultivators, they learn that cultivators are not immortal either. Perhaps one day, when I become the Heavenly Dao, I will finally learn whether it is truly immortal.
