In a hidden corner, anger flared, ready to burst. A ragged little beggar girl had witnessed everything that had just happened.
The drifting dust could not hide their evil deeds, and even the restless wind seemed to be cheering them on.
As a fellow woman, she couldn't bear to watch the woman who had been killed in the street and the girl struggling desperately.
Though she trembled all over, her gaze was utterly resolute. She had only wanted to hide quietly here and avoid the bandits, but faced with this scene, she decided to risk everything to save the girl.
Four or five bandits were heading in her direction. Behind her was a handcart piled with goods, and beyond it lay a crossroads. She pursed her lips, and an idea came to her.
She picked up a rock from the ground and, just as the man carrying the girl passed by, hurled it with all her strength straight at his head.
"Ouch!" The man cried out in pain.
Instinctively, he covered the wound with his hand. Blood ran from the corner of his eye down his neck and shoulder, making his whole face look particularly terrifying. With those blood-red eyes, he looked like a demon from the underworld come to claim a life.
