A Millennia-Old Taoist Temple: Beginning with Laozi Turning the Barbarians into Buddhas

During the Spring and Autumn period, the feudal states waged war against one another.

Rituals collapsed, music fell into disarray, and the common people suffered.

In those days, the Daoist Li Er rode west on a blue ox, heading among the Hu peoples.

People say he transformed the Hu into Buddhas.

But what the world did not know was that Laozi also left behind a Daoist temple: Dongling Temple!

And the temple's master was a mighty being who could grasp the workings of heaven and earth and knew everything.

From then on, Dongling Temple endured for a thousand years, producing remarkable talents in every generation.

Wu Zixu helped Wu become a hegemon and nearly destroyed Chu.

Zhuan Zhu and Yao Li became legends.

Yu Rang held fast to the last principles of the Spring and Autumn period, then Su Qin and Zhang Yi made their names known across the land.

Gai Nie and Wei Zhuang became the twin paragons of the martial world, while Zhang Liang plotted with wisdom that would endure through the ages...

In prosperous times, they withdrew to the mountains to seek immortality and pursue the Dao.

In chaotic times, they descended the mountain to eliminate bandits, protect the nation, and defend its people.

A poem says:

A legacy passed down through a thousand years, standing tall at Dongling.

We do not fight bandits in peaceful times, but gladly become heroes in an age of chaos!

Thus it is said: When the world is at peace, Dongling Temple keeps its doors shut. When chaos reigns, all bow before Dongling.
