The Newly Crowned Top Scholar Is Demoted, and Wanwan Invites Me into the Demon Sect

Zhao Yuan transmigrates into the Tang Dynasty, where demons and monsters run rampant. After ten years of arduous study, he places first in the palace examination. But after offending the powerful Left Chancellor, he is demoted by imperial decree to a coastal county, where he is appointed its magistrate.

"The three previous magistrates died mysteriously!"

"The City God appointed by the imperial court was found dead beneath a locust tree!"

"The Yellow Immortal has been demanding worship again and again lately, terrifying the locals!"

"Every year before spring planting, the local gentry sacrifice children alive to the River God!"

"The City God beneath butcher Zhang's chopping block in the eastern part of town drinks blood, eats flesh, and spits out gold!"

One horrifying case file after another is laid before Zhao Yuan. They're trying to make sure he dies without a trace in this cursed place.

Wanwan leans against Zhao Yuan's back and speaks in an irresistibly seductive voice. "Top Scholar, you studied hard for years, determined to serve the imperial court, only to end up stranded and doomed to die far from home. Was it worth it? Join my Demon Sect and overthrow the Li Tang Dynasty. We'll keep you safe."

Years later, the Demon Sect's Yin Queen, Zhu Yuyan, looks at the man seated high upon a throne above the heavens. "I always did have the best eye. I invested in him early on."
